The St.-Petersburg Synagogue Celebrates its 116th Birthday

116 years ago, on December 8th 1893 the Grand Choral Synagogue of St.-Petersburg was officially inaugurated and consecrated. At the opening ceremony the rabbi expressed his hope that the new Synagogue “will become the starting point of the Future Temple, the temple of universal love and peace”. Today, more than a century later, this prophecy seems to have come true, especially in what concerns “universal love”. On the day of its birthday, thousands of Jews from St.-Petersburg and all over the world have sent to the Synagogue their congratulations, warmest regards and good wishes.
