News: 12000 St.-Petersburg Jewish Families Get Calendar from the Synagogue |
The Jewish Community of St.-Petersburg has recently issued a colorful wall calendar for the Jewish year 5770.
The calendar will be presented via mail to more than 12 thousand of St.-Petersburg Jewish families. This project started 4 years ago and has quickly become a raving success. St.-Petersburg Jews appreciate the calendar as a special honor and a marker of their belonging to the Jewish Community. The Calendar includes both Jewish and Gregorian dates, Shabbat candle lighting times in St.-Petersburg, brief information about Jewish Holidays. This year the calendar was financially supported by hundreds of St.-Petersburg Jews, who made donations in loving remembrance of their late relatives. While the last-year calendar was thematically dedicated to the history of Jews in St.-Petersburg and included a vast collection of historical photos, the main focus of Jewish calendar-5770 is Jewish art. It includes reproductions of works by St.-Petersburg Jewish artists, such as “Simchat Torah” by Aron Zinshtein, “Chassidic story” by Tatiana Pogorelsky, “Jerusalem” by William Rosenson. The artistic value of the edition is evident. The calendar may be considered the first attempt at issuing together under one cover works of contemporary Jewish artists living in St.-Petersburg. |
