New Torah Scroll for New Synagogue

On February 3rd yet another one “Achnasat Torah” ceremony took place in Jewish Community of St.-Petersburg. A new Torah scroll was given to the new Synagogue (or rather prayer hall) at Kamennoostrovsky avenue by a prominent community member Mikhail Mirilashvily as a sign of thanks to the Almighty. The celebration was attended by hundreds of people, including Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar and Chief Rabbi of St.-Petersrburg Menachem-Mendel Pewzner. The synagogue at Kamennoostrovsky av. was opened upon initiative of Mikhail Mirilashvily in August 2008. It is a gathering-place for the community of Georgian Jews as well as Jews living in Petrogradsky district of St.-Petersburg.
